The following gallery contains all of the major deaths in the books and show. It also includes some of the minor ones you forgot about. The first few deaths occur during the events that lead up to the show book.Season 4 spoilers will be at the very bottom and you will be thoroughly warned.

Elia Targaryen Martell - Raped and murdered by The Mountain during the sack of King's Landing. Tywin claims she only died because he did not tell the Mountain specifically not to harm her. -

Aegon and Rhaenys Targaryen - Aegon's head was smashed against a wall by The Mountain. Rhaenys was dragged from underneath her father's bed and stabbed "half a hundred times". -

Rhaegar Targaryen - Faced Robert Baratheon in single combat and lost. His chest was smashed in by Robert's war hammer. The Ruby ford on the trident is named for the gems that flew from his armor when he was struck. -

King Aerys II Targaryen - "Those purple eyes grew huge then, and the royal mouth drooped open in shock. He lost control of his bowels, turned and ran for the Iron Throne. Beneath the empty eyes of the skulls, Jaime hauled the last dragonking bodily off the steps, squealing like a pig and smelling like a privy. A single slash across his throat was all it took to end it. So easy, he remembered thinking. A king should die harder than this." - Jamie Lannister recounting the death -

Rhaella Targaryen - Died giving birth to the Princess Daenerys Targaryen. She did not live long enough to cross the narrow sea. -

Lyanna Stark - Kidnapped by Rhegar and held in Dorne. Died in the Tower of Joy. Ned Stark remembered the room smelling of blood and roses. While her cause of death is unknown, she was lying in a "Bed of Blood". Her last words were: "Promise me, Ned." -

Rickard and Brandon Stark - When Lyanna was 'kidnapped', Brandon rode to King's Landing and demanded that Rhegar come out and face him in combat. King Aerys had him imprisoned and sent word to Lord Rickard to come collect his son. When he arrived, Aerys declared both of them guilty of treason. Rickon demanded a trial by combat. Aerys declared fire the champion of house Targaryen and had Rickard hung from the rafters and roasted alive in his armor. Meanwhile, Brandon was put in a strangling device and forced to watch. A sword was placed just out of his reach. He was told that if he could reach the sword, he could save himself and his father. Brandon strangled himself to death. -

Jon Arryn - Poisoned with Tears of Lys by his wife, Lysa Arryn."Jon was a man of peace. He was Hand for 17 years 17 good years. Why kill him?" -Ned Stark "He started asking questions." -Varys -

The following deaths are spoilers for Seasons 1-3 of GoT. Here's a recap spoiler of all the major deaths in and series so far. The death's will be in chronological order and there will be another spoiler warning for the deaths that have not yet happened in the show. -

Lady Sansa's Direwolf - Beheaded by Ned Stark. "Looking at her now, he knew that Sansa had chosen well. She was the smallest of the litter, the prettiest, the most gentle and trusting." - Ned describing Lady before killing her. -

Mycah - The bucher's boy. Accused of attacking Joffery and killed by the hound. "You rode him down," Ned said. The Hound's eyes seemed to glitter through the steel of that hideous dog's-head helm. "He ran." He looked at Ned's face and laughed. "But not very fast." - Ned -

Viserys Targaryen - Crowned with molten gold by Khal Drogo. " A Crown for a King" -

Robert Baratheon - Mortally wounded by a boar on a hunting trip. Robert was drunk and decided to face the beast with nothing but a spear. Lancel Lannister later confessed to giving Robert a stronger wine than he was used to while they were hunting. He believed that he had caused Robert's death. -
15.
Septa Mordane - Died so that Sansa would have time to escape the purge of the Starks. As a septa, she was a the Westerosi version of a nun. -
16.
Syrio Forel - Died so that Arya would have time to escape during the purge of the Starks. -
17.
Stable Boy - The first person Arya kills. Stabbed during the purge of the Starks in King's landing. -
18.
Ned Stark - Sentenced to death for Treason by King Joffery. Beheaded with his own family sword, Ice. -
19.
Rhaego Targaryen - Stillborn due to blood magic. Mirri Maz Duur sacrifices him to save Khal Drogo from death. -
20.
Khal Drogo - Given the Gift of Mercy by Daenerys. Wounded in combat. The wound festered and the Maegi, Mirri Maz Duur, used blood magic to save his life. It left him a vegetable and Daenerys smothered him with a silk pillow. -
21.
Mirri Maz Duur - Burned on Drogo's funeral pyre. A sacrifice, along with Drogo and Dany, to hatch the dragon eggs. "Only death can pay for life." -
22.
Maester Cressen - Cressen tried to poison Melisandre, believing that she killed Renley. He offers the glass to share and she drinks half but is unaffected. Cressen, however, dies from the poison. You go too far, woman, Lord Stannis said. He is an old man, and hes served me well. -
23.
Lommy Greenhands - Killed by Raff the Sweetling. They stab him in the throat upon learning that he cannot walk. -
24.
Amory Lorch - In the series he is killed by Jaqen H'ghar. In the books is thrown into a bear pit by Roose Bolton and Vargo Hoat. -
25.
The Tickler - In the series he is the first man killed by Jaqen H'ghar. In the books, Arya kills him. She stabs him violently until the Hound drags her away. -

Renly Baratheon - "She thought she glimpsed movement, but when she turned her head, it was only the king's shadow shifting against the silken walls. She heard Renly begin a jest, his shadow moving, lifting its sword, black on green, candles guttering, shivering, something was queer, wrong, and then she saw Renly's sword still in its scabbard, sheathed still, but the shadowsword... -

Qhorin Halfhand - Stabbed by Jon Snow to gain the trust of the Wildlings. -
28.
Rodrik Cassel - Murdered by Theon Greyjoy in the show. He upholds Ned Starks tradition of wielding the sword himself but proves to be a terrible executioner. It takes three or four chops to behead him. -
29.
The Farmer's sons - Flayed and burned. When Theon lost Bran and Rickon, he killed two boys in their place. He hung them from the walls of Winterfell as the lost boys. -
30.
Maester Luwin - Luwin was run down and stabbed by Bolton men during the sack of Winterfell. Bran and Ricken found him in the Godswood. He told the two young lords to split up. Osha gave him the Gift of Mercy. -
31.
Deaths at The Battle of the Blackwater - Ser Mandon Moore, Ser Jacelyn Bywater, Imry Florent Brother in Law to Stannis Guyard Morrigen Member of Renly's Rainbow Guard Dale, Allard, Maric, and Matthos Seaworth Sons of Davos, the Onion Knight -

Irri - Irri is strangled by Doreah. -

Doreah - In the show she betrays Dany and is Immured in a vault to die. In the books she withers and dies due to disease. -
34.
Hoster Tully - Lord of Riverrun. Catelyn Stark's father. He died of natural causes. " Her father was growing weaker and more delirious with every passing day, waking only to mutter, "Tansy," and beg forgiveness." - Catelyn Stark -

Talisa Maegyr - Murdered at the Red Wedding. In the books Robb marries a girl named Jeyne Westerling. She 'comforts' him when he gets news of his brother's deaths. He feels he must make an honest woman of her. She dies not attend the Red Wedding. -

Rob Stark - Slain by the Freys at his Uncle's wedding. The wedding became known as "the Red Wedding". After killing him, they sewed his direwolf's head onto his body. -
38.
Joyeuse Frey - Throat slit by Catelyn Stark. In the books she kills his grandson, not his wife. -

Catelyn Stark - Catelyn Stark raised her hands and watched the blood run down her long fingers, over her wrists, beneath the sleeves of her gown. Slow red worms crawled along her arms and under her clothes. It tickles. That made her laugh until she screamed. "Mad," someone said, "she's lost her wits," and someone else said, "Make an end," and a hand grabbed her scalp just as she'd done with Jinglebell, and she thought, 'No, don't, don't cut my hair, Ned loves my hair.' Then the steel was at her throat, and its bite was red and cold. -

Grey Wind - Beheaded at the Red wedding. Robb's Dire Wolf. -

Joffery Baratheon - Poisoned by the Lady Olenna at his wedding feast. "He's choking," Queen Margaery gasped. Her grandmother moved to her side. "Help the poor boy!" the Queen of Thorns screeched, in a voice ten times her size. "Dolts! Will you all stand about gaping? Help your king!" -

Shae - Murdered by Tyrion Lannister. Tyrion slid a hand under his father's chain, and twisted. The links tightened, digging into her neck. "For hands of gold are always cold, but a woman's hands are warm," he said. He gave cold hands another twist as the warm ones beat away his tears. -

Tywin Lannister - Murdered by Tyrion Lannister. Tyrion's finger clenched. The crossbow whanged just as Lord Tywin started to rise. The bolt slammed into him above the groin and he sat back down with a grunt. The quarrel had sunk deep, right to the fletching. Blood seeped out around the shaft, dripping down into his pubic hair and over his bare thighs. "You shot me," he said incredulously, his eyes glassy with shock. -

Lady Stoneheart - A resurrected Catelyn Stark. "She don't speak," said the big man in the yellow cloak. "You bloody bastards cut her throat too deep for that. But she remembers."
